How did Lord Voldemort control the basiliak, when no body cannot see it's eye?

okay. voldemort seperated his soul into 7 or 8 pieces and those pieces where held within anyold human object even creature. and if one of those things were to die he would still live on because of the remaining things. the basilisk was one one of them.
