Why can't i watch videos downloaded from bittorents?

no matter what codecs i download, no matter which bittorent i download from. i cant watch any videos i download on wmp 11 or wmp clic. it says that wmp doesnt support the codecs used on the file... can anyone tell me how i can solve this?
